Lefkada (Ionian Islands)

Lefkada, the beach lovers’ paradise

Lefkada is a fabulous verdant island with a crystal-clean sea surrounded by remarkable white cliffs.

This stunning member of the Ionian Islands is the ideal place for watersports and beach fans.

Must-visit places in Lefkada

Porto Katsiki, Greece’s most famous beach

Lefkada is famous for Porto Katsiki Beach, which is not just Lefkada’s but Greece’s most beautiful beach. Moreover, according to several resources, this beach is one of the world’s most fantastic. It’s named Porto Katziki (meaning “Goat Port”) because formerly, only goats were able to approach this coastline.

Nowadays, the beach is accessible on stairs from the cliff-top parking.

Porto Katziki is breathtaking and unforgettable! If you taste the feeling of this beach, you’re looking to return year after year!

Even if you have only some days to spend on Lefkada Island, do not miss this unique experience on this fantastic coastline! It’s highly peculiar with its secret caves you can discover by swimming in them.

The incredibly turquoise transparent water’s temperature is enjoyable from May-June to October.

How to get to Porto Katziki Beach?

You can reach Porto Katziki Beach by car. We rented a room in Vlikhon, a little farer from the famous beach. I saw guys approaching the area by motorbike, but if you choose this version, be careful with the traffic! Driving to Porto Katziki is tricky owing to the narrow and steep but stunning mountain routes, but the view is breathtaking! It’s worth stopping to take some unique photos from the top of the mountains surrounded by pine forests.

Take some food and drink to the beach, because you can’t find any shops or restaurants directly near the beach!

Nydri’s waterfall, back to the nature

Near Nydri village in Dimosari, you can find a green canyon on the East side of Lefkada Island.

This place is relaxing and cooling with its green lakes between the rocks in the canyon. Be aware that the water in the lakes is surprisingly cold!

The hiking route is not strenuous, but take a bottle of water! Wearing decent hiking shoes is essential!

The best time for visiting the canyon is after rainfall when the waterfalls are more imposing.

Desimi Beach near Nydri

Desimi Beach is a protected, lovely sandy, and pebbled coast.

It’s about 6 km from Nydri with a free parking place but recommended to arrive early.

There are motorboats and kayaks for rent to discover the exciting caves surrounding the bay. If you long for island-hopping, visit Meganisi Island, with its three villages, and the uninhabited Thilia by renting a boat.

The shallow waters are an ideal and secure place for families with kids.

There are some great restaurants with a sea view at Desimi Beach.

Where to stay in Lefkada?

Vlikhon is the perfect place for a one-week stay. Vlikhon is near the waterfalls and Desimi Beach and 45 km from Porto Katziki Beach.

You find authentic Greek houses near the sea.

I recommend a lovely accommodation, Dimitris Rooms in Vlikhon.

Book your accommodation well in advance! The island is busy in the high season!

Everybody can find suitable accommodation according to their needs and preferences.
